Police Identify 22-Year-Old Son as Suspect in Minnesota Home Double Murder-Suicide

On Sunday, August 30, officers were dispatched to an Inver Grove Heights residence to conduct a welfare check, according to the Inver Grove Heights Police Department.

Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered three people dead inside.

The deceased were identified by police as 43-year-old Jamie Lee Charles, 22-year-old Jaymison Shaw, and 19-year-old Willie Shaw Jr.

Charles was a licensed nurse and the mother of the two adult sons.

Based on preliminary findings from the scene, police determined that the deaths were a “double murder-suicide.”

The city of Inver Grove Heights is located approximately 20 miles southeast of Minneapolis by car.

On Tuesday, September 1, the Inver Grove Heights Police Department provided an update in an official news release.

An investigation revealed that Jaymison Shaw was the suspect in connection with the deaths, the department stated in the release.

But authorities have not yet released a motive for the killings.

Authorities have also withheld details regarding how the three family members died.

The police department addressed the broader community regarding the impact of the loss.

“This is a deeply tragic and heartbreaking event, and the Inver Grove Heights Police Department recognizes the profound grief this incident has caused for the community, especially for the family and loved ones of those involved,” the department said.

“We ask the community to give those impacted by this tragedy the privacy, care, and assistance they need in the days and weeks ahead.”

Charles worked as a licensed nurse at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, according to information on her Facebook page.

On Monday evening, a memorial gathering was held to honor Charles and her two sons at South Valley Park, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

Several people gathered at the park to remember the family.

Those attending the memorial released purple and black balloons into the air for Charles and her sons.

Charles’ cousin, Jarid Friese, spoke publicly at the South Valley Park gathering, per the newspaper.

“I just want to make sure that everyone that’s here understands that mental health is a huge deal, and we can do better about it as a community,” Charles’ cousin Jarid Friese said at the event, per the newspaper.

“I don’t know what happened, but I’m just saying that we can do better.”

And Friese noted that Charles will be remembered “by her laugh.”

Support efforts for the surviving relatives were organized shortly after the deaths were discovered.

Charles’ niece, Polly Morgan, established a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the family.

The campaign was set up in support of Charles’ father, Rodney Charles.

Rodney Charles is the grandfather of both Jaymison Shaw and Willie Shaw Jr.

The online fundraiser was created specifically to assist with funeral and memorial costs.

“Our family is facing an unimaginable heartbreak after the sudden loss of three deeply loved members of our family: Jamie, Willie Jr., and Jaymison,” Morgan wrote in the GoFundMe.

“There are no words that can truly express the pain of losing three precious lives,” the page continued.

“Each of them touched the lives of so many people and brought their own unique love, joy, and memories into our family and community.”

“Their absence has left a space that can never be filled.”

Yet authorities have disclosed no additional details surrounding the deaths inside the home.

No motive has been identified.

No cause of death has been released.
