A 17-year-old Oklahoma City driver struck a woman riding an electric scooter from behind, police said.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Ranesha Scyrus, while the teenage driver’s identity was withheld because he is a juvenile, authorities said.
Scyrus was struck near Melrose Lane and North Rockwell Avenue around 8:15 p.m. on September 10, according to police.
She had celebrated her 22nd birthday exactly one month earlier, on August 10.
That night, she had simply been riding her scooter home from work when her life ended, according to police.
Following the collision, the driver called his mother and told her he believed he had hit a deer, investigators said.
Because his mother was working, the youth drove his damaged pickup truck directly to her workplace, investigators said.
When the mother came outside to inspect the truck, she discovered Scyrus inside the pickup bed, police said.

She dialed 911 around 10:15 p.m., approximately two hours after the collision, authorities said.
Exactly how Scyrus got into the pickup bed remains publicly unexplained, police said.
Her mother, Tamika Scyrus, said the teenager placed her daughter in the truck and drove around for two hours. Police have not publicly confirmed that account or said whether the collision itself could have thrown Scyrus into the bed.
Investigators reportedly have evidence suggesting the teenager may have been recording something on his phone while driving, according to reports.
Police have not disclosed what any recording shows.
The youth displayed signs of possible intoxication and refused testing at the scene, authorities said. Officers subsequently obtained a warrant for a blood draw, according to police.
The teenager was taken into custody at the Oklahoma County Juvenile Justice Center, authorities said.
Officials were investigating possible offenses of DUI, manslaughter and leaving the scene, police said.
Formal charges had not been announced in the latest reporting, authorities said.
