Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband, who testified at her triple murder trial, threatens theorists claiming he framed her

Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother whose age was not listed in court filings, faced three counts of first-degree murder in the case, according to prosecutors.

The charges stemmed from the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, according to prosecutors.

On January 24, 2023, the three young children died after being strangled inside the family home, prosecutors said. Patrick Clancy, the father of the children, had left the residence that evening to run errands, according to trial testimony.

Prosecutors argued the mother had sent her husband on errands so she would be alone with the children, records show.

The defendant jumped out of a second-story window of the home in what appeared to be a suicide attempt, according to courtroom testimony. Her husband returned from his errands to find she had survived the fall, testimony showed.

The father then walked through the residence and found the three children, according to trial testimony.

The three children were discovered with exercise bands wrapped around their necks, according to court testimony.

He can be heard yelling, “She killed the kids!” on the recorded 911 call played for the jury.

On January 28, 2023, the father published an online statement addressing the killings on GoFundMe, records show. The public appeal for understanding came just four days after the three children died, records show.

“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” the father wrote in the post.

“The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients,” he wrote.

“The very fibers of her soul are loving,” the father stated in the post.

“All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace,” he added in the statement.

Patrick and Lindsay separated following the deaths of their children, according to court records.

The couple later divorced, records show.

In 2024, the former husband began dating Rachel Danis, according to statements made in court.

The couple married in April, according to statements by defense counsel. Their marriage was not publicly known until Lindsay’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, referenced it in court on July 23, 2026.

The mother subsequently went on trial on three counts of first-degree murder, according to court records.

Patrick Clancy became a central figure during the proceedings, court records show. He memorably took the stand as a witness in defense of his ex-wife, providing emotional courtroom testimony jurors say helped shape their view of the case.

Patrick took the stand early in the trial, becoming the first witness called by the defense to speak about his family.

The father fought back tears as he described his three children and the day he found them, according to trial accounts.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague showed photographs of the kids while Patrick was on the stand, court records show.

The father looked at an image of his five-year-old daughter smiling in a large red bow, according to court testimony.

Reacting to an image of Cora smiling in a large red bow, Patrick said, “She liked princesses. She had a lot of friends. She just liked taking care of people.”

He described Dawson as a fan of firefighters, trucks and Paw Patrol, according to his courtroom testimony.

Callan “was just a happy baby,” the father told jurors on the stand.

He told jurors that his former wife had been a loving mother, according to trial records. Her “mental health started to deteriorate” before the killings, he testified.

The father told jurors on the stand that he had forgiven his former wife, according to courtroom records. Jurors, however, were also played the recorded emergency call where he screamed that she had killed their children, records show.

Lindsay’s team argued throughout the trial that she should not be held criminally responsible for the deaths, according to court records.

The defense argued she had been suffering from postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder at the time, records show.

Reddington argued that the defendant was unable to differentiate right from wrong, according to court proceedings.

The defense noted that medical providers had treated the defendant for postpartum depression, according to court records. Reddington also said in court that antidepressants prescribed for Lindsay’s postpartum depression had made her condition worse.

The defense maintained the mother suffered from severe psychiatric illness, records show. Prosecutors countered that Lindsay knew exactly what she was doing and had sent Patrick to run errands so she would be alone with the children.

On August 13, 2026, Patrick and Danis were photographed in New York City while Lindsay’s trial was on a break, according to TMZ.

Photos obtained by TMZ showed the pair sitting on a Manhattan rooftop around 8 p.m., both wearing somber expressions.

An eyewitness told the outlet the couple stayed on the rooftop for about 30 minutes, according to the report. The pair appeared visibly stressed rather than relaxed as they talked and glanced at their phones, an eyewitness told the outlet.

The criminal proceedings concluded after a trial that lasted nearly six weeks, according to court records.

Jurors then spent roughly seven days in deliberations trying to reach a verdict, records show.

A judge declared a mistrial after deliberations stalled, court records show. Eleven jurors favored reaching a verdict while one juror held out, according to court records.

Judge William Sullivan officially declared a mistrial on September 4, 2026, amid a deadlocked 11-1 jury, court records show.

Hours after the mistrial was declared, Patrick’s attorney David Meier released a statement on his behalf, according to CBS News.

“Patrick Clancy is grateful to the Court and to the jurors for their hard work, their commitment and their perseverance,” Meier said in a statement to CBS News on September 4, 2026.

“The loss of Patrick’s children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure,” Meier said in the statement.

The father expressed gratitude for the jury’s efforts during the trial, according to his attorney’s statement. Meier added, “The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful — for Patrick, for his family and for all of us.”

When asked about Patrick after the mistrial, Reddington told reporters, “I think, Patrick, you heard the 911 call; I think you can judge his credibility by that 911 call. I don’t know what is in Patrick’s mind when he testified, and the jury was able to evaluate him.”

Days after the mistrial, Patrick’s lawyer Howard Cooper issued a sharply worded statement on September 8, 2026, records show.

The lawyer warned that Patrick would pursue legal action against people spreading online claims that he was involved in his kids’ deaths, according to the statement.

Cooper addressed claims by online conspiracy theorists claiming Patrick framed his ex-wife for their children’s murders, the release stated.

“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper said.

“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims,” Cooper said. The lawyer said the situation had produced “real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life,” according to the statement.

Cooper said Patrick wanted to refocus on “preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges.”

“This spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Cooper added.

“Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified,” Cooper said.

Conspiracy theorists claimed online that the father was complicit in the killings, according to his lawyer’s statement. Patrick has never been arrested or publicly named a suspect in the deaths of his children, records show.

One of the jurors, Kellie Farina, later described how Patrick’s appearance on the stand shaped deliberations, according to NBC 10 Boston.

Farina and two other female jurors spoke to NBC 10 Boston on September 8, 2026, in their first public comments since Judge William Sullivan declared the mistrial.

Farina said Reddington’s decision to present testimony from people close to Lindsay helped jurors better understand who she was, according to the interview. That defense approach stood in contrast with the prosecution, which she said offered “no character witnesses.”

“[Reddington] brought all these people in — people that loved her, her family, her in-laws,” Farina explained.

“Even Patrick was very compassionate,” Farina told the television station.

Jurors heard substantial medical testimony throughout the nearly six-week trial, according to the interview. Farina added, “So we appreciated the fact that [Reddington] didn’t just delay [the trial] and drag it on with a bunch of more medical BS and get more to the point really of who Lindsay is and what her life was like.”

Following the mistrial declared by Judge Sullivan, the three first-degree murder charges against the mother remain undecided, according to court records.
