Georgia mom handed daughter golf club used to fracture 14-year-old's skull: cops

On Monday, August 31, an altercation between several juveniles turned violent in Newnan, Georgia.

Newnan is located about a 40-mile drive southwest from Atlanta.

The fight began at a local bus stop.

Keira Harps’s sister Jasmine Osirio told Atlanta News First that she was there during the fight.

Keira was 14 years old at the time.

Osirio accused Curtisia Anya Heath’s daughters of bullying Keira online prior to the incident.

Heath, 36, lived in an apartment in Newnan.

Osirio attempted to speak with Heath as the dispute unfolded.

“I’m trying to talk to the mother, but she just wouldn’t talk to me back, and so after that, it just broke loose,” Osirio said, per the news outlet.

The Newnan Police Department announced the arrests in a Tuesday news release.

Police described the initial confrontation as a verbal altercation between several juveniles.

Heath is accused of escalating the fight between the group of teenage girls.

Then Heath allegedly intervened by retrieving a weapon from her home.

“During a verbal altercation between several juveniles,” Heath, of Newnan, got a golf club from her apartment and passed it to her 16-year-old daughter, police said in a Tuesday news release.

The 16-year-old girl raced over to a 14-year-old girl, according to police.

She struck the 14-year-old girl in the head with the golf club, police said.

Her family identified the 14-year-old victim as Keira Harps.

The strike reportedly fractured the teen’s skull.

And the violence did not stop with that initial strike.

Afterward, Heath’s 15-year-old daughter grabbed the golf club.

She “struck a second juvenile victim,” police said.

Osirio stated that she was also hit with the golf club.

“They also hit me with the golf club as well,” Osirio added to Atlanta News first.

The 14-year-old was hospitalized as a result of the attack, her family told Atlanta News First.

Her mother, Syrite Harps, spoke to the television outlet about what happened.

“I feel like now, you tried to kill my daughter,” Syrite Harps told the news outlet.

“That’s what went through my mind,” Harps said.

“Ya’ll tried to kill her,” she added.

“She was laid on the ground, she was passed out couldn’t get no response from her she wasn’t moving I thought she was dead,” Harps said of Keira.

Harps created a GoFundMe page for her daughter.

Harps wrote in a GoFundMe she created for her daughter that Keira “has a skull fracture, neck swelling, and [an] incision on the top of her head” due to the alleged golf club attack.

But the dispute was caught on video.

The recording captured the fight among the teenagers.

It also captured the police response as officers arrived at the scene.

Officers with the Newnan Police Department responded to the scene.

Curtisia Anya Heath was arrested in connection with the altercation.

She was arrested on aggravated assault charges.

Following Heath’s arrest, she was booked in the Coweta County Jail, according to police.

Her two daughters, ages 15 and 16, were also arrested.

Her teenage daughters were taken to a youth detention center, police said.

Both daughters face aggravated assault charges in connection with the incident.

In addition to aggravated assault, Heath’s older daughter was charged with aggravated battery.

Authorities didn’t release the names of Heath’s daughters.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Heath had retained legal counsel.

The mother was booked.

The daughters were detained.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
