A 36-year-old woman from Lufkin is back in custody following an alleged chase across Angelina County.

Deputies say a traffic stop escalated into a vehicle pursuit, a foot chase, and an attempted escape in a pond.

Shayna Marie Allen was arrested early Friday.

The sequence began when Angelina County sheriff’s deputies spotted a U-Haul box truck near Walnut Hill Road and State Highway 94.

Deputies observed the U-Haul truck committing a traffic violation.

They attempted to stop the vehicle.

Police say Allen accelerated instead of yielding.

A pursuit began as the truck fled from authorities.

The chase continued along Highway 94.

Deputies followed the vehicle onto FM 1194.

The pursuit eventually reached Randall Palmore Lane.

Authorities say Allen stopped the U-Haul box truck there.

She jumped out of the vehicle.

She ran on foot.

Then she went for the water.

According to the sheriff’s office, Allen jumped into a pond.

Deputies on shore gave her repeated commands to exit the water.

Allen refused repeated orders to come out.

So a deputy went into the pond after her.

The deputy physically removed Allen from the water.

Authorities later confirmed that Allen was actively wanted on an outstanding parole warrant.

She was taken into custody.

Allen was booked on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle.

She was booked on a charge of resisting arrest.

She was also booked on the parole violation.

The sheriff’s office stated that Allen previously received a 10-year burglary sentence.

Officials noted that she has an extensive arrest record.

That history includes 18 separate jail bookings in Angelina County dating back to 2007.

She will be held without bond on the parole warrant.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
