A 39-year-old Florida woman is facing an attempted murder charge after detectives say she secretly mixed benzodiazepine into a 69-year-old man’s drink.
Samantha Adams was identified by authorities as the woman facing the charges.
The victim told investigators that he knew her only by the name “Nala.”
According to an arrest affidavit, the two had initially met through a dating app.
The victim said they argued over a vehicle he had purchased for Adams.
Following the argument, Adams allegedly went into the kitchen.
She returned from the kitchen carrying two glasses of whiskey.
The man drank from one of the glasses.
According to the victim, the encounter between them then became intimate.
But Adams allegedly stopped the encounter.
She allegedly told the man that he would have to pay her $1,000 to continue.
The man refused to pay.
Adams then left the residence.
Later that evening, the 69-year-old man passed out.
He was subsequently hospitalized.
Medical staff determined that he had suffered a benzodiazepine overdose.
The man told investigators that he did not take benzodiazepines.
Detectives also learned that someone had allegedly tampered with the victim’s home security system.

In another instance, he reported backing into another vehicle while feeling unusually groggy.
On Aug. 27, Adams agreed to meet the victim at Posner Park in Davenport.
She was arrested at the scene by deputies.
When Adams was taken into custody, deputies say she had multiple prescription medications belonging to someone else.
Those medications allegedly included hydrocodone and oxycodone.
Deputies stated she was also carrying alprazolam, also known as Xanax.
In addition, deputies reported finding Adderall and sertraline in her possession.
She is charged with second-degree attempted murder.
Adams also faces a charge of tampering with evidence.
Authorities charged her with multiple drug-possession offenses.
Her charges further include resisting without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is charged with possession of a prescription drug without a prescription.
Adams also faces a charge of offering to commit prostitution.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said investigators believe there could be additional victims.
Sheriff Judd also alleged that Adams was motivated by money.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
