On August 22, 2026, an online vehicle sale turned into an armed robbery and a multi-vehicle highway crash.
The incident began at around 7 p.m. on Hampton Court in Solon, Ohio.
A 37-year-old man had arranged a meeting at that location while attempting to sell his 2015 Chevrolet Impala through Facebook Marketplace.
Two prospective buyers arrived to meet with the vehicle’s owner.
Police identified one of the prospective buyers as 18-year-old Martelle Carlito Reed of Cleveland.
According to investigators, Reed and another man took the Impala for a test drive before returning to the meeting location.
Then the transaction turned into an armed robbery.
Police said Reed’s passenger pointed a firearm at the victim’s friend.
The passenger then took the title to the vehicle.
Reed and the passenger allegedly drove away in the Impala without paying for it.
Law enforcement located the stolen car a short time later.
Minutes later, officers spotted the vehicle traveling northbound on SOM Center Road.
Police attempted to stop the Impala near Solon Road.
But authorities said Reed refused to stop and sped away.
Investigators said Reed entered westbound U.S. Route 422.

A 40-year-old Brook Park woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles struck during the crash was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities reported that she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Reed now faces three separate charges stemming from the robbery and pursuit.
