A Georgia father allegedly dropped his children off outside their mother’s empty home during heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning, according to an arrest warrant.
Jared Huffman was identified as the father in the Cobb County warrant, court records show.
Huffman allegedly left the children outside despite knowing that their mother was not at the residence, investigators said.
The children’s mother was at least 30 minutes away at the time of the drop-off, according to the warrant.
The father then allegedly left the children alone outside, investigators said.

Soaked from the rain, the children remained stranded outdoors in the severe weather, police said. They eventually discovered an unlocked door and managed to get themselves inside the house, investigators said.
The oldest child reportedly told her mother that she had been crying during the storm because it was so severe, court documents state. She said she did not know what to do, according to the warrant.
The girl reportedly objected when her father dropped them off at the home, according to the warrant. Huffman allegedly refused to listen to her protests, investigators said.
The father allegedly told his daughter that she was “old enough to watch the boys,” according to the warrant.
Huffman was subsequently taken into custody following the incident, police said. The allegations against him have not yet been proven in court, records show.
The father remains held in the Cobb County Jail on a charge of cruelty to children, according to jail records.
