Bizarre confession revealed after Arkansas woman Rebecca Jane Mryglod gets 20 years for shooting ex-boyfriend

An Arkansas woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following a shooting inside a Drasco residence.

Rebecca Jane Mryglod, 38, entered a guilty plea to first-degree domestic battery.

The plea agreement resolved criminal charges stemming from the repeated shooting of her ex-boyfriend.

A judge handed down a 240-month prison sentence.

Court records show Mryglod received credit for 648 days already spent behind bars in jail.

The shooting took place in November 2024 at a home in Drasco.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find the victim covered in blood.

He was screaming in pain as emergency crews loaded him into an ambulance.

Investigators searched the surrounding property for evidence.

They soon discovered a .22-caliber pistol roughly 100 yards away from the residence.

The magazine inside the recovered firearm was completely empty.

Mryglod later spoke with detectives regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

She told investigators that she and the victim had previously broken up.

But she stated she had moved back into the residence to help him “battle his spiritual demons.”

She also told detectives she had purchased the .22-caliber handgun only three days earlier.

During those three days, she said, she had been practicing with the weapon.

Then investigators documented the motive in an arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Mryglod told investigators she would rather the man be dead and herself in prison so she wouldn’t have to help him battle his spiritual side anymore.

Police said she outlined the exact sequence of events leading up to the gunfire.

She described retrieving the handgun at approximately 5 a.m.

She continued going through her usual morning routine inside the house.

She then walked outside and put her daughter on the school bus.

And she returned back inside the residence.

Police say she opened fire on the victim as he stood up from the couch.

Authorities originally booked Mryglod on multiple felony counts.

Her initial charges included attempted first-degree murder.

She was also charged with domestic battery.

Prosecutors additionally filed a count of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

Several of those original charges were formally dismissed as part of the negotiated plea deal.

The conviction carries a 20-year term in state prison.
