An Illinois inmate has died following an incident inside the Winnebago County Jail over the weekend.
Authorities said the inmate jumped from a second-floor balcony inside the jail.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Holland Morefield Jr.
Morefield was 57 years old.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, the incident began around 8:12 a.m., according to officials.
Officials said Morefield climbed over a second-floor railing inside the facility.
Then he jumped.
Correctional officers attempted lifesaving measures.
Morefield was then transported to a local hospital.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Winnebago County coroner determined the cause of death.

It was blunt-force trauma to the head.
Morefield was incarcerated following a conviction.
He had been convicted of violating an order of protection.
That violation was related to a previous domestic battery.
But that was not the only case connected to him.
At the time of his death, he was also facing charges in a separate domestic battery case.
Those separate charges included an allegation of aggravated assault.
That allegation was for aggravated assault against a police officer, correctional officer or firefighter.
And he was facing those charges when he died.
He had the conviction.
He had the pending domestic battery charges.
He had the assault allegation.
