West Virginia Father Charged With Child Neglect After Infant Hospitalized With Fractured Skull and Brain Bleed

A West Virginia father has been taken into custody after his infant daughter was hospitalized with severe physical trauma.

Charles Taylor, a resident of Fayette County, stands charged with child neglect causing injury.

The criminal case against him stems from an investigation initiated on August 25.

According to a criminal complaint, investigators initially convened with officers at Plateau Medical Center, where the injured infant had been taken for care.

Authorities arriving at the medical facility reported observing numerous scratches and bruises distributed across the baby’s torso.

Investigators also documented broken skin directly underneath the infant’s armpit.

Furthermore, responding personnel observed a noticeable bump on the child’s head.

The infant’s mother provided an account of the morning to investigating officers.

According to her statement, the baby had no visible injuries of any kind when she left the home for work earlier that day.

Taylor was reportedly left alone to care for the infant.

Concerns over the child’s safety escalated later that day when Taylor allegedly stopped answering his phone.

A neighbor was asked to check on the infant at the residence.

Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene to conduct an official welfare check.

The baby was subsequently transported to Plateau Medical Center for emergency medical treatment.

Hospital personnel quickly determined that the infant’s underlying condition was substantially more serious than what was visible externally.

Authorities stated that medical staff discovered the infant had sustained a fractured skull.

Doctors also diagnosed the child with bleeding on the brain.

Following the medical diagnosis, law enforcement officers launched an active search to find the father.

Investigators eventually tracked Taylor down in Oak Hill.

Taylor was taken into custody in Oak Hill without further incident.

During a subsequent interview with authorities, Taylor allegedly admitted that he had dropped his daughter on her head earlier that morning.

Investigators then questioned Taylor about the additional injuries documented across the infant’s body.

Taylor reportedly claimed that some of those marks could have resulted from the manner in which he held the baby.

And he suggested to investigators that other injuries may have been caused by bouncing the child on his leg or knee.

Taylor was placed under arrest following the interview.

He was subsequently transported to the Southern Regional Jail.

Taylor was held at the facility pending arraignment.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
