A 36-year-old Maine man has been arrested on sexual assault charges following an investigation into allegations dating back more than 10 years, police said.
James DeLong, 36, was arrested on Tuesday by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, according to authorities.
The alleged offenses were first reported to the Lincoln Police Department in 2025, police said.
The conduct allegedly occurred more than a decade before that report was made, according to investigators.
An extensive investigation followed the report, police said. That inquiry involved Lincoln Police, the Children’s Advocacy Center and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, officials said.

More than 10 years had passed since the alleged offenses occurred, officials said. The investigation did not end with the passage of time and instead resulted in an arrest, according to authorities.
The defendant is charged with gross sexual assault, police said.
DeLong also faces a count of unlawful sexual contact, according to authorities.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the alleged offenses, police said. The exact timeframe and the circumstances surrounding the allegations remain undisclosed, officials said.
DeLong has been charged, not convicted, according to authorities.
