“SHE IS OUT HERE DELIVERING THE MAIL, SHOOT HER ANYWAY”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, PROSECUTORS SAY A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY TRACKED A CHICAGO LETTER CARRIER AND SHOT HER AT CLOSE RANGE⦠AND NOW A SECOND MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH HER MURDER.

Octavia Redmond was 48 years old.
She had worked as a United States Postal Service letter carrier for more than 15 years.
She was a wife and a grandmother.
On July 19, 2024, Redmond was on duty delivering mail along her Chicago route.
Just before 11:40 a.m., Chicago police officers responded to emergency calls reporting gunfire.
The shooting took place in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue.
Arriving officers discovered Redmond on the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She had been attacked in the middle of her workday while carrying out her postal duties.
Her United States Postal Service vehicle remained sitting at the scene as her attacker fled.
Paramedics rushed Redmond to Christ Medical Center for emergency treatment.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives immediately began searching for evidence in the surrounding area.
Investigators soon obtained surveillance footage that captured the attack.
Authorities stated that the shooter approached Redmond on foot and produced a firearm.
The gunman then shot her multiple times at close range.
According to authorities, the shooter fled the scene in a white Dodge Durango.
The following day, investigators located a burned white Dodge Durango.
Police believed that the burned vehicle was the one used during the fatal shooting.
The investigation eventually led law enforcement to a 15-year-old boy.
Prosecutors stated that the teenager was dressed entirely in black on the morning of the attack.
According to prosecutors, the youth had actively tracked Redmond’s mail delivery route that day.

He allegedly fired multiple rounds at Redmond before fleeing.
In September 2024, law enforcement officers arrested the 15-year-old in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was subsequently extradited from Iowa back to Chicago to face criminal proceedings.
On June 3, 2026, the teenager pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Then the case proceeded to disposition in the juvenile justice system.
On July 1, a Cook County judge sentenced the teenager to five years in the Department of Juvenile Justice.
But investigators had not closed the case.
Police continued to pursue additional suspects involved in the killing.
On August 24, 2026, Chicago police arrested 35-year-old Lyndell Deyoung.
Authorities say Deyoung has now been identified as another individual who allegedly participated in Redmond’s murder.
Police have not publicly explained the specific role Deyoung is alleged to have played.
Prosecutors formally filed felony charges against him.
Deyoung has been charged with first-degree murder.
He faces an additional charge of murder involving a strong probability of death or great bodily harm.
According to police records, Deyoung has a history of prior arrests in the city.
Police say Deyoung has been arrested 10 times in Chicago since 2015.
His previous arrests include allegations involving a stolen vehicle.
His prior record also includes arrests for criminal trespass.
Yet authorities have not publicly disclosed any motive for the fatal shooting of a letter carrier delivering mail.
And Deyoung now awaits his next court proceeding in Cook County.
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 17.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
