Roman Bellini was a man who lived in a world dictated by absolute authority and unyielding fear.

Roman sprinted across the blinding gravel courtyard, the oppressive heat slamming into his chest like a physical wall.

Behind him, the frantic crunch of leather shoes signaled that his armed security team was racing to catch up.

The silver sedan sat baking under the blistering midday sun, parked beside the high stone perimeter wall.

Thick, shimmering heat waves rose in suffocating ripples off the vehicle’s metallic roof.

Roman reached the driver’s side and seized the door handle, searing his palm against the scorching metal.

The door was locked tight.

He pressed his face close against the dark window tint, shielding the blinding glare with his hands.

Strapped inside the rear-facing car seat, baby Nicholas was thrashing weakly against the heavy safety harness.

The infant’s face was dark crimson and drenched in sweat, his tiny mouth open in silent, exhausted gasps.

"Get me a crowbar!" Roman bellowed over his shoulder, his voice thick with raw panic.

He knew there was no time to wait for a guard to fetch tools.

Roman lunged toward the decorative garden border and hoisted a heavy, jagged limestone rock with both hands.

He smashed the stone violently into the driver’s front window, ensuring the shattered glass stayed far from his son.

The tempered safety glass gave way with a violent, echoing crack.

Roman thrust his arm through the opening, unlocked the rear door, and wrenched it open with brute force.

A suffocating blast of superheated air rolled out of the cabin, smelling of hot plastic and baked fabric.

With trembling hands, Roman unfastened the car seat straps and lifted Nicholas into his arms.

The baby’s skin felt like burning embers, his breathing shallow and dangerously fast.

"Here, use these!" Rachel cried, rushing forward with chilled water bottles and clean damp towels from her cart.

Roman dropped to his knees on the shaded grass, pressing the cool, wet cloth gently against his son’s overheating chest.

"What on earth is happening out here?" a high, trembling voice gasped from the terrace walkway.

Nurse Evelyn stood paralyzed on the steps, her car keys slipping from her limp fingers and clattering onto the flagstones.

Charles Vane hurried down behind her, nervously straightening his silk tie with damp, twitching fingers.

"I only ran inside for five minutes to fetch an iced tea," Evelyn stammered, her face white as chalk.

Roman lifted his gaze from his son, his dark eyes ablaze with murderous fury.

"Five minutes?" Roman repeated, his voice dropping into a deadly, quiet register.

Sophie stepped up right beside Roman, holding her red toy stethoscope tightly against her chest.

"She put him there before lunchtime," Sophie declared with quiet, fearless certainty.

Evelyn gasped, taking an instinctive step backward as if struck.

"She hid him behind the wall so the nursery cameras wouldn’t show him crying," Sophie added plainly.

Charles Vane stepped between Roman and the terrified nurse, holding up his hands in an appeasing gesture.

"Roman, let us not jump to hysterical conclusions based on the ramblings of a child," Charles urged smoothly.

Roman stood up slowly, cradling Nicholas tight against his chest with one protective arm.

"You arrived today at exactly 2:40 with emergency neglect papers already drawn," Roman noted, his mind putting the pieces together.

"You needed the state welfare officer to arrive and find my son in mortal distress," Roman whispered chillingly.

Charles blanched, taking an involuntary step back until his shoulder hit the sunbaked brick wall.

"That is a baseless, slanderous accusation!" Charles stammered, sweat beading across his forehead.

Just then, Charles’s phone buzzed violently in his hand, lighting up with a preview message from an offshore trust fund.

Marco stepped up from behind and snatched the unlocked phone straight from the lawyer’s grip.

"He paid her, boss," Marco reported grimly after scanning the screen. "The state inspector is scheduled to arrive at three o’clock."

Evelyn dropped to her knees on the lawn, weeping hysterically into her hands.

"Charles said nobody would hurt the baby!" Evelyn sobbed, covering her face.

"He told me Roman would just lose legal custody!" she wailed.

Gazing down at Nicholas’s fragile face, Roman knew underworld vengeance would only ruin his son’s future.

"Contact the federal prosecutor and the state police," Roman commanded Marco with absolute clarity.

"Hand over his phone, the gate footage, and lock them both in the security office until the detectives arrive."

Charles stared in utter shock as two armed guards seized his arms and marched him toward the estate gatehouse.

In the distance, the wailing sirens of an approaching pediatric ambulance grew louder through the heavy summer air.

Rachel knelt on the grass beside Roman, gently replacing the warmed cloth with another cool, damp towel.

Sophie stepped onto the curb beside Roman, leaning over the baby with deep medical seriousness.

She pressed the flat red plastic bell of her toy stethoscope against Nicholas’s chest.

"His heart is beating nice and calm now," Sophie reported, looking up into Roman’s eyes.

Nicholas blinked his tearful eyes open, let out a soft gurgle, and curled his tiny fingers tightly around Sophie’s thumb.

Roman exhaled a trembling breath he felt like he had been holding for months, moisture shining in his eyes.

"You saved my son’s life," Roman told Rachel softly, shaking his head. "You both belong here."

He dropped down to one knee so he was directly eye-to-eye with the little four-year-old girl.

"Thank you, Doctor Sophie," Roman whispered, a genuine smile breaking across his hardened face.

"He won’t be scared anymore," Sophie replied with a proud grin, "because doctors never leave their patients alone."
