Monroe Woman Facing Compulsory School Attendance Counts and Active Warrants Following Traffic Stop

A Monroe woman found herself behind bars Wednesday evening after what began with a traffic stop.

According to booking records, the woman was identified as 41-year-old Shareka Capers Lewis.

Officers with the Monroe Police Department took Lewis into custody.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Lewis was taken into custody at approximately 5:34 p.m.

What began with a traffic stop reportedly uncovered multiple active warrants.

The stop also reportedly uncovered multiple traffic violations.

And it uncovered allegations involving children not attending school as required by law.

Lewis faces two misdemeanor counts related to compulsory education.

Those counts involve children of compulsory school age being required to attend school.

The allegations also center on the parental duty to ensure that attendance.

Louisiana law places responsibility on parents or guardians to ensure that children who fall within the state’s compulsory school attendance requirements are actually attending school.

The educational neglect allegations are particularly notable under that state statutory framework.

According to booking records, each of those school attendance counts carries a $1,500 bond.

But those were not the only allegations waiting for Lewis.

Booking records show she was also cited for driving without a license.

That citation for driving without a driver’s license carries another $1,500 bond.

Lewis was also cited by authorities for speeding.

Her bond for the speeding violation was set at $750.

In addition, Lewis faces an alleged child restraint law violation.

That alleged child restraint violation carries a $300 bond.

Then there were the outstanding warrants that surfaced during the encounter.

Authorities booked Lewis on three separate contempt of court warrants.

Those warrants carry individual bonds of $2,000, $1,750 and $1,500.

One of the contempt of court warrants carries a $2,000 bond.

A second contempt warrant carries a bond of $1,750.

The third contempt warrant carries a bond of $1,500.

When all of the listed amounts are combined, Lewis’ total bond is $10,800.

Lewis has been booked on the charges following the traffic stop.

But a booking is not a conviction.

She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
