A Florida mother and her adult son were arrested on incest charges after a domestic violence call uncovered a years-long sexual relationship, authorities said.
Deputies identified the suspects as 46-year-old Christina Clemens and 22-year-old Shane Clemens of Lakeland, Florida.
Deputies initially responded to a domestic disturbance where the mother accused her son of striking her, police said.
Shane Clemens was initially arrested on a domestic violence battery allegation, according to investigators.
While speaking with detectives, the 22-year-old suspect allegedly disclosed that he had been in a sexual relationship with his mother. He claimed the relationship had been ongoing since he was 18, according to the sheriff.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said investigators then questioned the mother about her son’s statements.

During questioning, Christina Clemens allegedly acknowledged that the sexual encounters with her adult son had happened repeatedly, Judd said. She estimated to investigators that the encounters occurred roughly 100 times, the sheriff said.
Investigators also questioned Christina Clemens’ husband about the household, according to Judd.
Her husband said he did not know about the alleged relationship, Judd said. He recalled the two going into the master bedroom together and locking the door, according to the sheriff.
Christina Clemens was later arrested and charged with incest and living in open adultery, authorities said.
Records show her bond was set at $5,250 following her arrest.
Shane Clemens was charged with incest and domestic violence battery, police said.
He was being held without bond, according to authorities.
