I came home from my business trip an entire day early, only to find my fiancée cornering my mother in the kitchen.

My grip tightened on the phone as the camera recorded every millimeter of the kitchen.

"Take the pen, Evelyn," Vanessa snapped, shoving the silver instrument against my mother’s palm.

"I built this home with my late husband," Mom said, her voice shaking violently. "I will not let you throw me away."

Vanessa laughed, a dry, grating sound that made my skin crawl.

"Your husband is dead, and Daniel belongs to me now."

She grabbed Mom’s wrist, twisting it painfully toward the signature line.

"If you make a scene, I will destroy his company’s reputation before the wedding even starts," Vanessa hissed.

Mom winced, tears spilling silently down her pale, wrinkled cheeks.

"You think you control him, don’t you?" Mom whispered.

"I control everything in this house," Vanessa sneered, leaning in close.

"Not quite everything," I said quietly, stepping out of the shadows.

The heavy silence of the kitchen shattered in an instant.

Vanessa froze mid-breath, her fingers still locked around my mother’s arm.

Slowly, she turned her head toward the arched hallway where I stood.

The cruel sneer on her lips vanished, replaced by sheer terror.

"Daniel?" she stammered, instantly releasing Mom’s arm.

She took a hurried step back, smoothing down the silk fabric of her designer robe.

"You… you’re home early," she managed, forcing a fragile smile onto her face.

"Keep talking," I said, holding my phone high as the red recording light pulsed. "I want the microphone to catch every single detail."

Her eyes widened when she realized what was in my hand.

"Baby, please, it’s not what you think," she pleaded, holding her hands up defensively.

"What is it, then?" I asked, walking slowly toward the marble island.

"Your mother was having an episode," Vanessa lied, her voice trembling with manufactured panic.

"She tried to hit me, Daniel! I was just trying to protect myself and keep her calm!"

I ignored her completely and knelt down beside my mother.

"Are you alright, Mom?" I asked softly, gently inspecting her bruised skin.

Mom nodded through her tears, clutching my trench coat with trembling hands.

"I’m okay now, Daniel," she whispered, exhaling a shuddering breath. "I’m okay."

I stood back up and turned to Vanessa, letting my cold gaze lock onto hers.

"Green Hollow?" I asked, picking up the legal document from the marble slab.

"A non-disclosure agreement backed by forged text messages?"

Vanessa swallowed hard, her chest heaving as the color drained from her face.

"I was only thinking about our marriage," she cried out desperately.

"She has always judged me, Daniel! She was going to poison your mind against me!"

"My mother never said a single negative word about you," I replied, my voice dangerously calm.

She took a step toward me, reaching for my forearm with those manicured hands.

"Daniel, please, look at everything we built together," she begged, tears spilling down her cheeks.

I stepped back, letting her hands grasp empty air.

"Don’t touch me," I said, tapping my screen to stop and save the video.

I dialed my chief of security on speakerphone without taking my eyes off her.

"Marcus," I said clearly. "Have two guards at the front entrance immediately."

"Right away, Mr. Vance," Marcus replied before hanging up.

Vanessa’s breath hitched as reality finally crashed down on her.

"You’re throwing me out?" she gasped, clutching her chest. "Over a simple disagreement?"

"Take off the ring, Vanessa," I ordered, extending my open hand.

"No," she choked out, backing away toward the patio doors. "This is my ring! We are getting married in three months!"

"You take it off right now, or Marcus hands this assault video directly to the police," I said.

Her mouth trembled in utter disbelief, realizing her entire empire of lies had collapsed.

Slowly, bitterly, she twisted the platinum band off her trembling finger.

She slammed the diamond onto the counter, glaring at me with raw venom.

"You’ll regret this, Daniel," she spat, her mask falling completely away. "You’ll die alone in this fortress."

Heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor as Marcus and his team entered the kitchen.

"Escort Miss Caldwell off the property," I instructed, not even glancing at her again. "Ensure she leaves with only the clothes on her back."

Vanessa screamed insults as security firmly guided her toward the front exit.

The heavy front door slammed shut, cutting off the noise and restoring peace to the house.

I picked up the uncapped silver pen and dropped it straight into the garbage bin.

Then, I wrapped both arms around my mother, holding her tight against my chest.

"No one will ever threaten you again, Mom," I promised quietly. "I swear it."
