Christopher carried Emma through the glass terrace doors, leaving a trail of water across the polished limestone.
Yvette hurried right behind them, draping a heavy wool blanket over the shivering child.
"Take her straight to my bedroom, Yvette," Christopher commanded in a voice strained with raw panic.
"Lock the doors and don’t open them for anyone except the paramedics."
The older housekeeper nodded firmly, her wrinkled face hardened with fierce maternal protectiveness.
"Daddy?" Emma whimpered softly against his collarbone, her little hands clutching his soaked shirt.
"I am right here, sweetheart," Christopher whispered, pressing a trembling kiss to her damp hair.
"Nobody in this house will ever touch you again, I swear to you."
Yvette gently took the little girl into her arms and hurried swiftly down the private corridor.
Christopher stood motionless in the grand hallway, listening to the muffled patter of their retreating footsteps.
The entire manor felt suffocatingly cold, thick with the silence of decades of buried lies.
Above him, the sweeping curved staircase led toward the private penthouse suite on the third floor.
In his right hand, the small audio recorder burned against his palm like a brand.
He began his ascent up the marble stairs, his wet dress shoes squeaking with every heavy step.
The carved double doors to Estelle Pierce’s private sitting room stood slightly ajar.
Christopher pushed them open with a harsh shove, sending them crashing back against the wall.
Estelle sat beside the floor-to-ceiling balcony windows, an antique porcelain teacup resting in her hands.
She did not startle or look up, maintaining the serene composure she had practiced for fifty years.
"You are ruining the antique rug with pool water, Christopher," she murmured calmly.
"Your granddaughter almost drowned three minutes ago," he replied, each syllable sharp as broken glass.
Estelle finally raised her chin, her steel-gray eyes devoid of any maternal warmth.
"Clumsy accidents happen to children who lack proper breeding and discipline."
Christopher threw the digital recorder onto the glass table directly before her.
The heavy device slammed against the tabletop with a sharp, violent crack.
"That was no accident, Mother," he said. "It was an execution ordered by you."
Estelle glanced down at the recorder, but her cold expression did not waver.
"You foolish boy," she sighed, setting down her cup with steady fingers.
"Did you honestly believe I would let Rachel Monroe’s bastard inherit the Pierce family legacy?"
"Emma is my daughter!" Christopher shouted, the venom in his voice shaking the crystal chandelier.
Estelle rose from her armchair, her posture rigid with aristocratic arrogance.
"She is a commoner’s stray, and she has no place in this lineage!"
"You tried to murder an innocent six-year-old child," he whispered, sickened to his core.
"I did what was necessary to preserve our empire," Estelle declared without an ounce of remorse.
"If you defy me on this, Christopher, I will cut you from the trust before nightfall."
Christopher let out a bitter, humorless laugh that echoed through the vast suite.
"You still think this is about money, don’t you?" he asked quietly.
Suddenly, a high-pitched siren wailed from the distant driveway at the estate gates.
Estelle’s eyes narrowed slightly as flashes of red and blue light cut through the silk drapes.
"What did you do?" she demanded, the first real crack appearing in her composure.
"Before I pulled Emma from the water, I emailed that recording to the district attorney," he said.
"You wouldn’t dare humiliate our name!" she hissed, stepping forward with clenched fists.
"The Pierce name died the moment you tried to drown my daughter," Christopher said evenly.
The sound of rapid footsteps echoed from the landing outside the double doors.
Three uniformed police officers entered the room, led by Detective Miller.
"Estelle Pierce?" Detective Miller asked, drawing a pair of steel handcuffs from his utility belt.
"You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder."
Estelle backed against the grand desk, her aristocratic mask crumbling into wild panic.
"Take your hands off me at once! Do you know who I am?"
"I know exactly what you are," Detective Miller responded coldly, stepping forward.
Estelle looked to her son, searching his face for any lingering shred of loyalty.
Christopher simply looked away, offering her nothing but absolute silence.
The metal cuffs snapped shut around her wrists, sealing her fate forever.
The grand manor fell dead silent as the officers led Estelle down the stairs in shame.
Christopher walked back to his private wing, feeling the heavy burden of the past lift away.
Inside his bedroom, Emma was propped up against the pillows, safely wrapped in blankets.
Yvette smiled gently from the bedside chair, handing the little girl a warm mug of cocoa.
As Christopher stepped inside, Emma’s eyes lit up with profound relief.
"Daddy, are the bad people gone now?" she asked, reaching out her small hands.
"Yes, baby," Christopher said, gathering her tightly into his arms as warm tears fell.
"They are gone forever, and we are going to build a real family of our own."
