BELIEVE IT OR NOT, PROSECUTORS SAY 14-YEAR-OLD LILYANA ROSE WAGNER FATALLY SHOT HER MOTHER IN HER BED AFTER ABANDONING A MASS-CASUALTY ATTACK PLAN… AND SHE HAS NOW BEEN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON WITH AT LEAST 30 YEARS TO SERVE BEFORE PAROLE ELIGIBILITY.
On November 19, 2024, police officers in Tifton, Georgia, encountered 14-year-old Lilyana Rose Wagner.
Wagner had just been involved in a single-vehicle crash.
During the interaction, Wagner told officers that she lived alone with her mother.
Later that day, authorities conducted a welfare check at the family’s home in Tifton.
The welfare check was initiated after Wagner’s mother failed to report to work.
She had also not answered her telephone.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers went inside to check on the home’s occupant.
Officers found 51-year-old Rachel Suzanne Wagner dead inside the home.
She was found lying dead in her bed.
She had suffered a single gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Investigators launched an inquiry into the fatal shooting.
Investigators later determined the origin of the firearm used in Rachel’s death.
Rachel had purchased the weapon from a pawn shop located in Valdosta.
She had bought the gun approximately one month before the shooting occurred.
According to prosecutors, Rachel allowed Lilyana to keep the handgun in her own bedroom.
Rachel also allowed ammunition to be kept in Lilyana’s bedroom.
Investigators said Lilyana had become obsessed with school shooters and mass shootings.
She had developed an extensive online and social media presence.

That online presence centered entirely around her interest in planning and carrying out a mass-casualty attack.
Over the following months, the investigation expanded.
Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation analyzed data recovered from Lilyana’s mobile phone.
Investigators with the Tifton Police Department also analyzed data recovered from the phone.
Authorities said the phone contained conversations with anonymous individuals.
Those anonymous individuals allegedly encouraged Lilyana to plan and commit murder.
And prosecutors said Lilyana continued communicating with some of those individuals even after the fatal shooting.
Those communications continued after she was taken to a hospital following her mother’s death.
Investigators also recovered a handwritten confession from the teenager.
In the handwritten text, Lilyana described killing her mother as a “last-minute choice.”
According to prosecutors, Lilyana wrote that she had originally planned to carry out a shooting at her former middle school.
But she wrote that she chose to kill her mother instead.
Lilyana also reportedly listed six school shooters who had inspired her.
She wrote that although she did not ultimately commit a school shooting, the events were influenced by those individuals.
Then the criminal case proceeded to court.
On August 25, 2026, a now 16-year-old Lilyana entered a plea in court.
She pleaded guilty to felony murder in connection with her mother’s death.
She also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection with the fatal shooting.
Lilyana was sentenced to life in prison.
Under the sentence, she must serve at least 30 years before becoming eligible for parole.
