For years, the royal heir had been holding a mysterious balance test to find the one princess worthy of his heart—yet not a single woman could pass it.

A suffocating silence clamped over the grand hall, smothering the arrogant whispers of the nobility.

The golden structure continued to rise from the floor, gleaming with hundreds of intricate brass gears.

"Step away from her immediately, Henry," Julian ordered, his deep voice echoing off the vaulted marble ceiling.

The old master stumbled backward in sheer disbelief, clutching his heavy brass ledger tight against his chest.

"Your Highness, this cannot be permitted!" sputtered Lady Genevieve from the front row of noble contenders.

She pointed a trembling, diamond-ringed finger directly at Clara with undisguised contempt.

"She is an ordinary commoner in a cheap, threadbare dress!" Genevieve cried out in bitter outrage.

Angry murmurs rippled across the assembly of aristocrats, spreading like a sudden brushfire through dry leaves.

"She must have rigged the mechanism before stepping aboard!" another noblewoman shouted from the crowd.

More furious voices joined the chorus, demanding that the guards drag Clara off the platform at once.

Clara looked down at the rising pedestal, feeling her pulse hammer like a war drum against her ribs.

Yet beneath her worn leather shoes, the golden floor felt completely steady and hummed with gentle warmth.

"I did not touch a single thing," Clara stated clearly, refusing to shrink beneath their hostile glares.

Julian descended the wide marble steps of the throne dais, his dark eyes fixed entirely upon her.

"Silence, every single one of you," Julian commanded without even needing to raise his voice.

The crowd instantly choked back their protests, thoroughly cowed by the chilling authority in his tone.

He reached the edge of the circular platform and halted right beside the polished bronze rim.

"Do you know what this machine truly is, Clara?" the prince asked in a remarkably gentle tone.

Clara met his piercing gaze and drew a slow, deliberate breath to steady her racing heart.

"I assumed it was merely an impossible riddle designed to humiliate hopeful brides," she replied honestly.

A faint, admiring smirk tugged at the corner of Julian’s usually impassive lips.

"For three centuries, our kingdom believed it was a test of rigid posture and physical grace," he said.

Master Henry swallowed hard and stepped forward with trembling, ink-stained hands.

"It was crafted by Queen Valoria, the peacemaker who united our fractured realm," the old scholar whispered.

"Every other woman tried to overpower the platform through sheer will," Julian said, stepping onto the gold.

As his heavy, muscular frame stepped aboard, the circular surface dipped sharply toward his side.

Clara did not freeze or fight the sudden drop; she shifted her weight naturally to absorb the movement.

The golden platform immediately leveled out again, resting in flawless balance between them.

"They held their breath and stiffened their bodies against the shifting floor," Julian murmured softly.

"They treated the world like an enemy to be conquered," Clara said, the truth finally dawning upon her.

"Precisely," Julian whispered, stepping closer. "They mistook stubborn pride for true balance."

Lady Genevieve sneered loudly from the gallery, completely unwilling to accept defeat.

"You would choose an unrefined peasant over noble blood merely because she wobbled?" Genevieve spat.

Julian turned slowly toward the gallery, his sharp expression turning into absolute frost.

"She did not wobble, my lady," he answered with cutting precision. "She listened."

Between Julian and Clara, the rising golden structure blossomed open like an intricate mechanical flower.

At its center rested an ancient, slender circlet crafted from silver and raw, unpolished river stones.

"The lost crown of Queen Valoria," Master Henry breathed, sinking to his knees beside the platform.

The surrounding royal guards dropped to one knee in unison, their polished armor clattering against marble.

Julian looked back at Clara, the heavy burden he had carried for years visibly melting from his features.

"For three years, I feared I would have to govern this fragile realm entirely alone," he confessed.

"A crown is a terrifying weight, Your Highness," Clara said softly, glancing at the ancient silver band.

"It destroys anyone who tries to bear it with rigid arrogance," Julian agreed without hesitation.

He extended his bare hand across the blooming golden petals directly toward her.

"Will you bear that weight alongside me, Clara?" the prince asked, offering no royal command.

The great hall fell so quiet that the faint flickering of the torch flames could be heard.

Clara looked at his outstretched hand, then back into his dark, remarkably earnest eyes.

"Only if you promise to move with me whenever the world shifts," she replied with quiet strength.

Julian smiled—a warm, radiant smile that no courtier in the palace had ever witnessed before.

"I swear it on my life," he promised, closing his strong fingers gently over hers.

At their touch, a clear, resonant chime rang out from the heart of the golden lotus mechanism.

The entire platform settled permanently into place, becoming completely flush with the throne room floor.

"Hail the chosen consort of the realm!" Master Henry proclaimed, bowing his white head to the stone.

Reluctantly at first, and then with genuine reverence, the aristocrats sank into deep bows before them.

Clara stood proudly beside Julian, her natural grace outshining every glittering jewel in the kingdom.
