Daycare driver Tametria Norry, accused of leaving 6-year-old Winter Jones to die on hot bus, is released on bond

A Memphis daycare bus driver allegedly skipped a required walk-through before a child died inside a hot vehicle, according to state officials.

Tametria Norry faces criminal charges in the August 13 death of 6-year-old Winter Jones, according to court records.

Winter, a nonverbal autistic child, was left inside the hot daycare bus and lost her life, authorities said.

Norry is charged with aggravated child neglect, criminally negligent homicide, and destruction of or tampering with governmental records, court documents state.

The driver allegedly said she did not walk through the bus to check for remaining children because she was hot, according to the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Records show Winter was documented as getting onto the bus at 8:35 a.m. and getting off at 8:50 a.m. Despite those records, authorities said the 6-year-old was never actually dropped off at the school.

Daycare employees Sabrina Powe and Amilya Hardin served alongside the driver as reviewers, according to investigators.

Norry, Powe, and Hardin admitted they did not conduct the required walk-through, investigators said.

The three women then allegedly signed the log indicating that the check had been completed, according to investigators.

Powe and Hardin face the same three criminal charges as Norry, according to court records.

All three defendants have pleaded not guilty, court records show.

Powe and Hardin were previously released from custody on $50,000 bonds, according to records.

Norry had her bond subsequently reduced and was released from jail on Wednesday, records state.

Attorneys representing the family of Winter Jones have announced plans to pursue a civil lawsuit.

Hardin, a full-time college student in Shelby County, will not attend the upcoming court hearing, according to records.

The three women are scheduled to return to court on October 30.
