“I AM ACTUALLY INNOCENT AND MY LAWYERS PRESSURED ME”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY BRYAN KOHBERGER PLEADED GUILTY TO MURDERING FOUR UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO STUDENTS… AND NOW HE HAS BEEN GIVEN 2027 COURT DATES IN AN ATTEMPT TO UNDO HIS LIFE SENTENCE.
Bryan Kohberger is getting another day in court.
The 31-year-old is trying to undo the guilty plea that sent him to prison for life.
He was imprisoned for murdering four University of Idaho students.
In July 2025, Kohberger pleaded guilty to killing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
By pleading guilty, he avoided a possible death sentence.
He received four consecutive life sentences without parole.
That distinction matters because Kohberger did not just sign paperwork.
During his 2025 plea hearing, the judge directly asked whether he was pleading guilty because he was guilty.
Kohberger answered: “Yes.”
Then, a year later, he said he is actually innocent.
He claims his former attorneys pressured him into the plea.
He claims they made promises that were not kept.
And he claims they failed to disclose evidence he believes could have helped his defense.
These claims are part of his post-conviction petition.
The Goncalves family has publicly blasted the effort.
They argued that Kohberger knowingly admitted guilt in open court.
They emphasized that he did so after years of working with his defense team.
But his convictions have not been thrown out.
He has not been granted a new murder trial.
He has only been given court dates to argue his position.
He must argue why the guilty pleas he knowingly entered should be undone.
That is a very different victory.
Now, Kohberger is asking to withdraw the plea.
He is asking to take the case to trial.
The court is still considering his post-conviction petition.
Prosecutors have asked that the petition be dismissed.
Judge Steven Hippler has not yet ruled that Kohberger gets to withdraw his plea.
Yet the judge has scheduled new dates on the matter.
Judge Hippler has scheduled a status conference for June 3, 2027.
The judge has also set aside June 17, 2027 for a possible evidentiary hearing.
