Beverly Hills teen Conoray Lawantara accused of fatally stabbing homeless man — claiming on camera he pulled a concealed knife

The Beverly Hills Police Department initially received a report of a physical altercation involving two men late on a Sunday night.

Officers were dispatched to an alleyway on the 400 block of North Palm Drive at approximately 11:39 p.m.

Upon arrival, police found 19-year-old Conoray Lawantara and an unidentified homeless man.

The homeless man was suffering from a serious stab wound to his neck, police said.

Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene of the stabbing.

He was transported to a local hospital.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Lawantara was also taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

He remains hospitalized for those injuries.

Police arrested Lawantara on suspicion of murder.

The fatal confrontation took place in an alley behind an apartment where Lawantara lives with his girlfriend, according to neighbors.

Neighbors told the California Post that the couple had just moved into the neighborhood a few weeks ago.

The surrounding upscale neighborhood features residences that sell for $2 million or more.

According to local residents, the alleyway behind North Palm Drive is often visited by homeless people.

Those residents said homeless individuals in the area do not usually cause trouble.

Neighbors reported that the homeless man was looking through trash cans in the alley prior to the stabbing.

Lawantara then confronted the man and stabbed him multiple times, according to neighbors.

Several videos recorded at the location captured both men in the immediate aftermath of the altercation.

One video showed the unidentified victim lying on the ground in the alley as he moaned in agony.

In other clips from the scene, Lawantara is seen seated on the pavement in handcuffs while speaking with responding officers.

“He reached for me and at that time I produced a CCW [concealed carry weapon] — it’s a 3.9 inch knife,” Lawantara is heard telling officers.

“I went for him because he was pulling at me,” Lawantara told police in the video.

Lawantara told officers that he instructed the man to let go, but the man refused, according to the video.

“He kept pulling at me,” Lawantara can be heard saying.

In an additional video clip, the teenager told investigators that he attempted to push the man off him.

“He kept going after me,” Lawantara is heard saying.

“I tried going away.”

Residents described finding a gory aftermath in the alleyway, noting “pools of blood all around.”

“The police were trying to revive this poor man that was lying there with blood, like it was in ‘CSI,’” one neighbor said.

The Beverly Hills Police Department stated that its investigation remains ongoing.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
