An Indiana man has been sentenced after a beer-truck theft escalated into a police pursuit, a collision with a deputy’s cruiser and a crash into a field, authorities said.
Randall Baker, 41, of Indiana, resolved the case through a plea agreement, according to court records.
On March 27, Baker stole the beer truck from a liquor store on North Governor Street, police said.
The defendant then led officers on a pursuit that extended into Posey County, according to police.
The chase eventually made national headlines after dramatic police body-camera footage was released, officials said.
Baker slammed the stolen truck into a deputy’s cruiser during the chase, authorities said. He then crashed into a field, where the pursuit finally ended.

The driver originally faced an attempted murder charge in connection with the incident, according to court records.
Attempted murder was the most serious charge Baker faced in the case, prosecutors said. That count was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Baker was sentenced under the deal to serve 2½ years in prison, authorities said. The term behind bars will be followed by 2½ years on work release.
The motorist will also have his driver’s license suspended for one year, according to court records.
Baker must also complete alcohol and substance-abuse treatment, according to the agreement.
The court also ordered Baker to pay more than $15,000 in restitution to Working Distributors, records show.
