Alabama sets 30-hour execution window for killer Michael Shannon Taylor — as governor refuses clemency for 1991 murders

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has set a 30-hour window for the execution of death row inmate Michael Shannon Taylor.

Taylor was sentenced to death for the 1991 capital murders of Ivan and Lucille Moore.

Taylor’s execution is scheduled to be carried out by lethal injection.

The window will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2026.

It will remain open until 6:00 a.m. on Nov. 6.

The Alabama Supreme Court authorized the state to carry out Taylor’s death sentence in a June 4 order.

The court directed the governor to establish the execution time frame.

Ivey addressed the schedule in a letter to Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Hamm.

In the letter to Hamm, Ivey said the Supreme Court’s order serves as the death warrant in the case.

Ivey also addressed clemency.

The governor said she currently has no plans to grant it.

But she retains the constitutional authority to issue a reprieve before the execution.

And she retains the constitutional authority to commute Taylor’s sentence.

Taylor has now been on death row for decades.

The state is preparing to carry out the sentence more than 35 years after the murders.

The order stands.

The warrant is set.

The execution window begins on Nov. 5, 2026.
