Alabama man Charles Carson-Dowdy shot ex-girlfriend 14 times, ran over her body three times: prosecutors

The relationship between Starmichael Tucker and Charles Carson-Dowdy began in October 2024.

It lasted less than three months before ending in Tucker’s death.

Carson-Dowdy, 31, of Mobile, Alabama, has now been sentenced to life in federal prison for the killing.

According to federal prosecutors, the unraveling began while Tucker was visiting California during the holidays.

During that trip, Tucker uncovered a disturbing truth regarding Carson-Dowdy’s conduct during their relationship.

Carson-Dowdy admitted through text messages that he had been secretly reading Tucker’s private messages from the start.

Upon learning about the surveillance, Tucker decided to end the relationship.

On January 1, 2025, Tucker began traveling back toward her residence in Pensacola, Florida.

Carson-Dowdy responded by taking an Uber from Mobile across state lines to Pensacola to confront her.

Authorities stated that Carson-Dowdy did not arrive empty-handed.

He carried a Taurus handgun alongside an additional loaded magazine.

Carson-Dowdy was already a convicted felon and was legally prohibited from possessing any firearm.

Upon reaching the Pensacola property, he broke directly into Tucker’s apartment.

Carson-Dowdy waited for her inside the residence.

He then sent Tucker a text message to notify her that he was waiting inside her home.

People who communicated with Tucker after she received the news said she was extremely upset.

Those contacts confirmed that Tucker specifically identified Carson-Dowdy as the sole reason for her distress.

The following evening, at approximately 8 p.m., Tucker walked out of her apartment building.

Carson-Dowdy followed immediately behind her.

Prosecutors said Carson-Dowdy fired approximately four shots directly into Tucker’s back.

The initial gunfire caused Tucker to collapse onto the pavement in the parking lot.

Carson-Dowdy then walked up to the wounded woman at close range.

He fired approximately 10 additional rounds into her body.

But the assault did not stop with the gunfire.

Carson-Dowdy stepped into Tucker’s vehicle and put the car in motion.

He drove the vehicle directly over Tucker’s body.

He then shifted into reverse and ran over her body a second time.

Then he shifted into drive, ran over her a third time, and sped away from the complex in her vehicle.

Minutes later, Carson-Dowdy contacted one of Tucker’s relatives.

He delivered a three-word text message: “Star is dead.”

He also reportedly spoke to another person by telephone, stating that he had shot Tucker “sixteen times.”

Law enforcement officers eventually tracked Carson-Dowdy down to Spanish Fort, Alabama.

When police stopped him, he was still driving Tucker’s vehicle.

Inside the car, authorities recovered the firearm used in Tucker’s murder.

Carson-Dowdy was taken into custody and ultimately resolved the case through a guilty plea.

He pleaded guilty to cyberstalking.

He pleaded guilty to interstate domestic violence.

He pleaded guilty to murder through the use of a firearm.

He also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

In formal court filings submitted with his plea, Carson-Dowdy admitted that he “deliberately and intentionally took the victim’s life with premeditated intent.”

On August 26, 2026, Carson-Dowdy was sentenced to life in federal prison.
