An Oklahoma man was arrested after allegedly telling investigators he had possessed tens of thousands of child abuse images and videos throughout his life, state authorities said.

Michael Carrick, 63, of Newcastle, was identified as the accused man by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The arrest followed an online investigation carried out by the bureau’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, officials said.
The investigation began July 8 after authorities identified an online file containing CSAM, according to investigators.
Bureau agents eventually linked that online file to Carrick, investigators said.

Carrick allegedly used multiple online devices to view, save, store and distribute illegal material involving children, according to investigators.
During an interview with agents, the Newcastle man allegedly admitted to using several different search engines to find the material, authorities said.
He also allegedly estimated that the total number of illegal images and videos he had possessed throughout his lifetime was in the “tens of thousands,” according to investigators.
Carrick was arrested on complaints including child sexual exploitation, as well as the possession and distribution of CSAM, officials said.
The complaints further cite violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, investigators said. He is accused and has not been convicted, authorities noted.
The accused man remains in custody following the online investigation, according to state authorities.
