Vanessa Pawlicki Arrested on Child Abuse Charge After Witness Reports Boy Was Beaten and Dragged

On August 31, 47-year-old Vanessa Pawlicki was arrested.

The arrest was reported by television stations WCJB and WFTV.

Details were documented in Marion County Jail records and an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the arrest followed a report from a witness.

That witness said Pawlicki repeatedly hit a boy.

The witness reported that Pawlicki also kicked the child.

And according to the witness, she dragged him inside by his hair.

The witness said Pawlicki punished the child after he got in trouble at church.

The witness also stated that Pawlicki coached the boy to lie.

She allegedly warned him that he would go to jail if he told the truth.

Deputies subsequently documented scratches and bruises across the child’s body.

A medical examination also documented the injuries.

Trauma was recorded across the boy’s head, face, ear, and hairline.

Marks were also found across his chest, back, arms, and legs.

Yet the boy later denied that he had been abused.

He told investigators that he fell from a bed.

But investigators found that his physical injuries matched the witness’s account.

Investigators concluded that someone likely coached the boy.

Pawlicki denied hitting the child.

She also said she could not explain the other injuries.

Pawlicki faces a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.

At the time of her arrest, Pawlicki was caring for the surviving siblings of three-year-old Paisley Brown.

Authorities say Paisley died after alleged abuse inside her home.

Officials have not publicly confirmed whether the boy in Pawlicki’s case is one of those siblings.

Following Pawlicki’s arrest, the Department of Children and Families took custody of the children in the home.

The state agency removed the children from her care.

Pawlicki has not been convicted.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
