Seven arrested in Alabama drug sweep including pair accused of chemically endangering child: deputies

An Alabama woman and six other suspects were arrested following an ongoing narcotics investigation in Goodwater, authorities said.

Samantha Pitts Sly, 47, and Chandler Sly, 22, were arrested during the operation in Goodwater, according to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and investigators with the Clay-Coosa Narcotics Task Force were investigating the distribution and possession of illegal controlled substances in the area, the sheriff’s office said.

Lonnie Grogan, 49, Stormie Bobo, 38, and Christopher Mulkey, 43, were also arrested in the sweep, authorities said.

Grogan, Bobo, and Mulkey each face charges involving possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to investigators.

Tonya Brown, 45, was charged with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, the sheriff’s office said.

Barbara Butler, 62, faces marijuana and drug-paraphernalia charges, according to authorities.

Two arrests came with an additional allegation beyond the narcotics offenses, according to officials. Samantha Pitts Sly and Chandler Sly are both charged with chemical endangerment of a child, the sheriff’s office said.

The pair also face charges involving marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of prescription drugs, authorities said.

Authorities have not released additional details explaining the circumstances behind the child endangerment charges, according to officials. All charges in the investigation remain allegations, the sheriff’s office said.

Seven suspects were taken into custody during the operation, authorities said. But investigators have obtained warrants for an eighth person, according to the sheriff’s office.

Additional arrests or charges could follow as the narcotics investigation continues, according to investigators.
