Jesse Calhoun, already charged in five women’s deaths, indicted for manslaughter of missing 32-year-old Elizabeth Gibson

An Oregon suspect tied to the deaths of five women across the Pacific Northwest has now been indicted in the death of a sixth victim, prosecutors said.

Jesse Calhoun was identified by authorities as the man connected to the string of deaths across the region.

The defendant is now accused of first-degree manslaughter in the death of Elizabeth “Libby” Gibson, 32, of Portland, prosecutors said.

Multnomah County authorities believe Gibson died on November 18, 2022. Her remains have still not been recovered, according to officials.

A friend formally reported the 32-year-old woman missing months later in March 2023, police said.

Investigators were reportedly aware of Gibson’s disappearance during the early stages of the multi-agency investigation. Detectives only recently developed enough evidence to connect Calhoun to her death, prosecutors said.

Gibson’s siblings remembered her as “kind, creative and silly” and said she welcomed people with love and acceptance.

Her childhood friend, Lisa Shaw, described learning that Gibson would never return as heartbreaking.

The suspect already faces second-degree murder and abuse-of-a-corpse charges involving five other women, prosecutors said.

Those five victims were identified by authorities as Ashley Real, Kristin Smith, Charity Lynn Perry, Joanna Speaks and Bridget Leanne Webster.

Their bodies were discovered in rural and wooded areas across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington between late 2022 and mid-2023, police said.

The latest indictment brings the total number of women whose deaths authorities have connected to Calhoun to six.

Calhoun is scheduled to be arraigned on the new manslaughter charge Monday, with a trial expected later.
