East Memphis homeowner Stanley Trezevant, 71, accused of tackling boy fishing on his property, faces child abuse charges

A 71-year-old Tennessee man faces child abuse and assault charges after allegedly tackling a minor who was fishing near his property, police said.

Stanley Trezevant, 71, owns the property in East Memphis where the incident took place, according to police.

Memphis police said Trezevant confronted two minors who were fishing near his East Memphis property and told them to leave. According to the child’s mother, the boys did leave.

Police allege Trezevant followed them after they left the scene, according to investigators.

The property owner allegedly grabbed one boy by the arm and threw him to the ground, police said.

Trezevant then allegedly put a knee on the boy’s back and pulled his hands behind him as though he were being arrested, police alleged.

The child reportedly apologized to the man before leaving, according to police.

The boy was later taken to Baptist Children’s Hospital, police said. Officers at the hospital reported seeing bruising on the minor’s arm and leg, according to investigators.

The child later identified Trezevant in a photo lineup, police said.

When questioned by officers the following day, Trezevant did not deny physically detaining the minor, police said.

Trezevant reportedly told police that the minors had been fishing on his property and that he told them to leave. He then allegedly announced that he was going to make a “citizen’s arrest,” according to investigators.

The suspect allegedly acknowledged grabbing the boy, putting him on the ground, holding his arm behind his back and placing his knee on him, police said.

Trezevant was formally charged with child abuse and assault, according to police.

His bond had not yet been set, and the defendant is scheduled to appear in court Friday, police said.
