A 22-year-old Canadian man was found dead on a sports field before three accused minors reached manslaughter plea agreements, court records show.
Taig Savage, 22, was discovered dead on a school track field in Penticton, British Columbia, according to records.
The victim’s family is facing another turn five years after his death, according to the report.
Four people were eventually charged with second-degree murder in Savage’s September 2021 death, prosecutors said.
Three of the accused were minors when the killing occurred, according to court documents.
Now, all three of those former juvenile defendants have reached plea agreements for manslaughter, records show.
The first juvenile pleaded guilty on September 4, court records show.
Less than two weeks later, the victim’s family learned that the other two had reached similar agreements, records indicate.
The sentencing difference remains significant because the three were juveniles at the time, records show.

Under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, the maximum youth sentence described for manslaughter is three years, records show. Second-degree murder carries up to seven years under the statute.
Proving second-degree murder requires prosecutors to establish the necessary intent, a former Crown prosecutor explained.
That task can become complicated when multiple defendants are accused, the former Crown prosecutor said. Prosecutors must establish what each person individually did and intended.
A publication ban currently prevents reporting the circumstances disclosed in court, records show.
The ban remains in place because Isaac Jack, the only person charged as an adult, has not yet gone to trial, court documents state.
For the victim’s mother, Tracey Savage, the legal explanations do not make the outcome any easier, she said.
She recently held the granddaughter her son will never meet. “There is no justice for Taig,” she said of the latest developments.
After three murder cases became manslaughter pleas, she now wonders whether the fourth defendant’s murder trial will happen at all, she said.
