A Missouri man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following a 2025 shooting that left another man hospitalized, according to authorities.
Cory Franklin, 31, entered an Alford plea to first-degree assault, according to court records.
Under the plea, the defendant did not admit guilt in the shooting. He acknowledged, however, that prosecutors had enough evidence that he could likely be convicted at trial.
The case stems from an October 2025 shooting on Miner Street in Sarcoxie, Jasper County deputies said.
A 49-year-old man was shot in the back of his left arm during the gunfire, deputies said.

The bullet continued into the man’s back, according to investigators.
The wounded victim was hospitalized following the shooting, deputies said.
He was reported in stable condition, according to authorities.
There had been no physical altercation between anyone before the gunfire, witnesses told investigators.
Franklin did not admit guilt when he entered the plea in court. The defendant had previously admitted that he fired one shot, however, investigators said.
He will now serve 13 years behind bars for first-degree assault.
