A 55-year-old Florida dog trainer allegedly lifted a client’s pet by its leash and restricted its breathing until it passed out, according to the sheriff.
Todd Morehead, 55, worked through an in-home dog training and therapy company, according to officials.
A Brevard County family hired the trainer to help with their dog’s behavior, the sheriff said. But their home surveillance camera allegedly captured something very different, according to Ivey.
Footage shows Morehead taking the dog into the backyard, lifting it off the ground by its leash and restricting its breathing until the animal lost consciousness, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.

The dog survived, the sheriff said. Its ultimate condition was uncertain because of the potential effects of oxygen deprivation, according to Ivey.
Morehead was arrested September 8 and charged with animal cruelty, records show.
Sheriff Ivey also had a recommendation for the judge, saying, “don’t let him around pets anymore.”
The trainer was released the following day on $5,000 bond, records show.
The defendant remains accused and has not been convicted, authorities said.
