North Carolina Driver Accused Of Offering Debit Card Or Underwear To Halt DWI Test

Kelly Ann Camus, 37, is a resident of North Carolina, according to court records.

On September 4, 2026, Camus was arrested following an alleged traffic incident on Chapel Hill Road, police said.

The stop occurred in Morrisville near the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and the entrance ramp to Interstate 540 West, according to Wake County court records.

Camus was allegedly driving 65 mph in a 45 mph zone, court documents state. She also allegedly failed to use a turn signal while changing lanes, according to the complaint.

Authorities initially charged Camus with driving while impaired and reckless driving with wanton disregard, records show.

The driver was also cited for speeding and failure to signal while changing lanes, according to court documents.

The encounter allegedly became much more unusual once Morrisville Police Officer B. Clegg began a driving while impaired investigation, according to a separate warrant.

Authorities say Camus tried to persuade the officer to halt the DWI investigation with an offer involving thousands of dollars or her clothing, records state.

Investigators allege Camus offered Officer Clegg a $5,000 debit card, according to the warrant.

And if that was not enough, the suspect allegedly presented another option, authorities said.

Camus allegedly offered to give the officer the underwear she was wearing, according to court records.

The alleged offers were not simply comments made during the encounter, the warrant states. Investigators contend they were intended to influence Officer Clegg to discontinue breath testing connected to the DWI investigation, according to the documents.

That alleged offer resulted in Camus facing an additional and more serious charge of felony offering bribes, according to police.

Her court appearance on the felony bribery charge was scheduled for September 8, court records show.

The defendant was scheduled to appear separately on the traffic-related charges on September 25, according to court documents.
