BELIEVE IT OR NOT, PROSECUTORS SAY SAMUEL LEE SCOTT RETURNED TO HIS WIFE’S HOME AND FATALLY BEAT HER AFTER A NONPROFIT POSTED HIS BAIL… AND HE WAS SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE.

A Missouri woman’s written plea for protection became tragically prophetic after the husband she feared was released from jail.
Marcia Johnson had sought legal protection from her husband, Samuel Lee Scott.
She had already described years of abuse while seeking that legal intervention.
“I, Marcia Johnson, have been mentally and physically abused off and on for three years by Samuel Scott, my husband,” she wrote in her protection-order application.
She ended the application with an unmistakable warning.
“I don’t trust Samuel Scott nor will I Feel Safe.”
On January 6, 2019, Samuel Lee Scott struck his wife, Marcia Johnson, in the face in St. Louis, according to court records.
Documents said Scott told her he “might as well finish what [he] started since [she] was going to contact the police.”
Police subsequently listed Scott as wanted.
On April 5, police arrested Scott.
Authorities charged Scott with fourth-degree domestic assault.
Scott was held in custody following that arrest.
On April 9, while Scott remained in custody, a deputy formally served him with a protective order at approximately 6:10 p.m.
The order prohibited Scott from coming within 300 feet of Marcia.
The order also prohibited Scott from entering her residence.
Then, just 48 minutes later, at approximately 6:58 p.m., the St. Louis Bail Project posted Scott’s $5,000 bond, securing his release.
The nonprofit organization paid the full $5,000 bail to secure his discharge.
His release took place less than an hour after he was served with an order requiring him to stay 300 feet away from her.
And approximately 45 minutes after that, according to prosecutors, Scott was at Marcia’s apartment despite the protective order he had just received.

Prosecutors say he went back to her home that same night.
Prosecutors say he fatally beat her there.
At around 11 p.m., a friend discovered Marcia unconscious.
Her injuries were devastating.
She had suffered a broken eye socket.
She had suffered broken ribs.
She had suffered extensive bruising across her body.
Marcia remained hospitalized following the assault.
She never recovered from the injuries she sustained.
On April 14, 2019, Marcia died.
Scott was eventually prosecuted for her death.
In 2022, he was convicted of murdering Marcia Johnson.
The court sentenced Scott to life in prison.
The life sentence was imposed without the possibility of parole.
Following Marcia’s death, Bail Project director Robin Steinberg addressed the outcome.
“No one could have predicted this tragedy,” Steinberg said.
Yet Marcia herself had put her fear in writing before Scott’s release.
She had described the abuse.
She had warned the court.
“I don’t trust Samuel Scott nor will I Feel Safe.”
