A 12-year-old Maryland boy named Xavier Leathers is being credited by his mother with saving her life.
The intervention allegedly occurred during a violent confrontation inside their Temple Hills apartment.
According to the account, Xavier was asleep on the couch shortly after midnight.
Then his mother’s boyfriend entered the residence.
Xavier awakened to a terrifying scene.
The boy reportedly witnessed the man choking his mother.
He saw her choked twice.
Xavier went into the kitchen.
He grabbed a knife.
He returned to intervene.

The 12-year-old then stabbed the man twice in the back near his rib cage.
The stabbing reportedly stopped the attack on his mother.
But Xavier was also cut during the struggle.
He was otherwise reported to be okay.
His mother was transported to a hospital for treatment.
She later sought a protective order against her boyfriend.
According to the mother, she initially didn’t even understand why the choking had suddenly stopped.
She said it was only after police explained what had happened that she learned her 12-year-old son had intervened.
She credits Xavier’s actions with saving her life.
The boyfriend was taken into custody following the incident.
Yet according to the information currently available, he has not been formally charged.
The allegations concerning his actions have not been proven in court.
