BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A FORMER LOUISIANA POLICE OFFICER PLEADED GUILTY TO THIRD-DEGREE RAPE AND STRANGULATION… AND HE HAS NOW BEEN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS.
William Reid, a former DeRidder police officer, has been sentenced following his guilty plea to two felony charges.
The plea resolved charges of third-degree rape and domestic abuse with strangulation.
Earlier in 2026, Reid formally pleaded guilty to both counts.
The court imposed a total sentence of 16 years.
For the charge of third-degree rape, Reid was sentenced to 13 years at hard labor.
The court ordered that term to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
And for domestic abuse with strangulation, Reid received an additional three-year suspended sentence.
That suspended term includes five years of probation.
The total imposed sentence stands at 16 years, with 13 years to be served in prison and three years suspended.
Reid will serve his prison time in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
But the penalties will continue beyond his release from state prison.

After his release from the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Reid will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Reid’s history with the DeRidder Police Department predates his criminal case.
In June 2020, Reid resigned from the department.
His resignation came after allegations surfaced involving his conduct during patrol duties.
Allegations indicated that he had used information obtained during traffic stops to look up female drivers.
Those allegations further stated that he contacted those women on social media.
Nearly five years later, in April 2025, Reid was arrested by his former police department.
That arrest followed a domestic investigation.
Then Reid ultimately pleaded guilty to both charges earlier in 2026.
The rape charge brought 13 years behind bars.
The strangulation charge brought five years of probation.
The conviction brought lifetime registration as a sex offender.
