BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A KALAMAZOO BABYSITTER INFLICTED FATAL BLUNT-FORCE TRAUMA ON A 15-MONTH-OLD GIRL… AND A JURY HAS CONVICTED HER OF FELONY MURDER.

On October 28, 2023, 15-month-old Jermany Coleman was placed in the care of babysitter Tiffany Briana Moore.
The arrangement took place at an apartment located on Michigamme Woods Drive in Kalamazoo.
Moore was 34 years old at the time.
Police said Moore was one of two people reportedly with Jermany that day.
Later, the toddler’s mother returned to the Michigamme Woods Drive apartment.
When the mother arrived, neither Moore nor Jermany was inside the residence.
Moore returned a short time later, bringing the 15-month-old child with her.
The toddler had sustained catastrophic physical trauma.
Jermany had a badly swollen face.
She also had a bloody nose.
Responding police officers arrived at the apartment at approximately 5:00 a.m.
Officers found the toddler suffering from significant trauma.
Emergency medical crews rushed Jermany directly to Bronson Children’s Hospital.
She arrived at the medical facility listed in critical condition.
Hospital staff performed a medical scan of the toddler’s head.
The scan showed severe pressure accumulating inside her skull.
That internal pressure was forcing her entire brain toward the left side.
The damage was severe enough to leave treating doctors worried that she was brain-dead.
Days later, Jermany died at Bronson Children’s Hospital.
A forensic pathologist subsequently examined the child.
The forensic pathologist officially ruled her death a homicide.
The autopsy determined that her death was caused by multiple blunt-force injuries.

A child-abuse doctor evaluated the toddler’s catastrophic injuries.
That physician said the trauma required extreme force.
The doctor stated that the injuries could not have come from an ordinary household fall.
Inside the apartment, crime scene investigators conducted a search for physical evidence.
They discovered cracked red press-on nails inside the home.
Investigators believed those red press-on nails belonged to Moore.
Some of the recovered nails carried what appeared to be hair fibers.
Investigators also discovered recovered nails bearing what appeared to be blood.
But officers initially could not find Moore following the incident.
Police formally listed the 34-year-old babysitter as a person of interest.
On October 29, officers located Moore.
Prosecutors formally filed criminal charges against her later that year.
The case eventually proceeded to trial in Kalamazoo County.
Jermany’s mother took the witness stand to testify that Moore watched her child at the apartment that morning.
Medical testimony presented in court detailed the extreme force involved in the fatal head trauma.
Then the case went to the jury for deliberations.
On September 2, the jury reached a guilty verdict.
Jurors convicted Moore of felony murder.
The jury also convicted her of second-degree murder.
And jurors found her guilty on a charge of first-degree child abuse.
Under Michigan law, an adult convicted of felony murder faces mandatory life in prison without parole.
Moore remains in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
She remains held without bond.
She will be formally sentenced on October 30.
