“WE INSTALLED EXTRA LOCKS ON THE DOOR TO KEEP HER INSIDE”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY FOUR-YEAR-OLD AKARI CORTES WANDERED OUT INTO A MANCHESTER STREET BEFORE DAWN AND WAS FATALLY STRUCK BY A VEHICLE JUST DAYS AFTER CHILD PROTECTION WORKERS RECEIVED NEGLECT REPORTS, RESULTING IN ARRESTS FOR BOTH PARENTS AND THE DRIVER.

On August 28, police arrested Taylor Biron, 28, and Nathael Cortes, 26.
Both parents face criminal charges following the death of their four-year-old daughter, Akari Cortes.
The fatal incident occurred during the early morning hours in Manchester.
Akari had wandered outside the residence before dawn.
At 4:36 a.m., she was struck by a vehicle on East Center Street.
The child suffered blunt-force injuries to her head, neck, torso and right leg.
She died from her injuries at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
The collision occurred five days after state child welfare authorities received a second report concerning the family.
The Connecticut Department of Children and Families received the initial report on June 1.
A second report alleging that Akari had been left unsupervised was received on June 5.
During the course of those investigations, the family installed additional door locks.
Those locks were put in place to prevent the four-year-old from leaving the residence without an adult.
But early on June 10, Akari managed to get outside.
She walked alone through the Manchester neighborhood.
Minutes before the collision, a neighbor’s security camera reportedly recorded the young girl.
The footage captured her running up the neighbor’s sidewalk.
She climbed the front steps.

She then tried to open the front door of the home.
The homeowner was asleep at the time.
He did not view the recorded security footage until after police officers arrived.
Then the four-year-old was struck on East Center Street.
Police arrested 49-year-old Tarequl Ambia, the driver involved in the fatal crash.
Ambia was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle.
He was also charged with reckless driving.
Authorities further charged him with disobeying a traffic signal and failing to keep right.
In addition, Ambia faces a charge for using a handheld electronic device for the third time.
Ambia posted a $50,000 surety bond.
Biron and Cortes each face a charge of risk of injury.
Both parents posted $25,000 bonds.
All three defendants were released from custody.
The Department of Children and Families later substantiated both parents for physical neglect.
The agency concluded that their continued lack of supervision resulted in Akari’s death.
And authorities removed Akari’s surviving siblings from the home.
The surviving children were placed in the care of a relative.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
