Maryland man Kevin Goetz told police his girlfriend left in the rain — before deputies heard themselves on her phone

A 38-year-old Calvert County man is facing new criminal charges after authorities say he interfered with officers attempting to conduct a welfare check.

Police also accused him of damaging a sheriff’s patrol vehicle during the call.

The accused man has been identified by authorities as Kevin Paul Goetz of Solomons.

On August 22, Goetz allegedly called police during a domestic dispute shortly before midnight.

He then told the responding trooper that the emergency call had been a “misdial.”

Goetz reportedly told law enforcement that his girlfriend had already left the residence on foot in heavy rain.

Deputies then attempted to contact the woman directly by calling her phone.

When deputies called her, they could reportedly hear officers talking to Goetz in the background of her phone call.

The background audio indicated that she had never left the residence.

Deputies detained Goetz while officers conducted a search of the home.

During the search, deputies found the woman hiding inside his bedroom.

The girlfriend told responding officers that she had hidden because she was intimidated by police.

She also stated to authorities that her dispute with Goetz had been strictly verbal.

Then the situation escalated inside the patrol car.

While officers spoke with the woman, Goetz allegedly began yelling from inside a sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

Police reported that Goetz began kicking the cage inside the cruiser.

Deputies later inspected the vehicle and discovered scratches on a door panel.

The cost to replace the damaged door panel was estimated at approximately $1,200.

Goetz was charged with obstructing and hindering.

He was additionally charged with felony malicious destruction of property.

According to authorities, Goetz has faced multiple earlier cases originating from the same Solomons address.

In February, Goetz was arrested after police accused him of assaulting multiple people at the home.

Police said he fought with responding officers during that February incident.

Authorities reported that he also repeatedly kicked another patrol vehicle while making graphic threats against deputies and their families.

During that earlier encounter, Goetz reportedly told police that he had “hid her good.”

Deputies searching the property in February found his girlfriend concealed in an upstairs closet.

Officers located her hidden behind clothing, boxes and other items.

Then in March, Goetz was arrested again following another family dispute at the property.

In that case, Goetz was accused of assaulting a woman.

Authorities also accused him of intentionally bending and breaking a cellphone to keep a child from calling for help.

Five months after that incident, police say they returned to the residence for another domestic call.

Deputies were told once again that the woman had left.

And deputies once again discovered her hiding inside the home.

Following his latest arrest, Goetz was released on his own recognizance.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
