“THE CHILDREN ARE COMPLETELY CARED FOR AND UP TO DATE ON THEIR DOCTOR VISITS”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY JUSTINE DESTINY BARBOA AND DANNY LEE PERKINS NEGLECTED THEIR TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN A TRASH-FILLED VEHICLE UNTIL THEY TESTED POSITIVE FOR ILLICIT DRUGS AND DEVELOPED SEVERE INFECTIONS… AND BOTH NOW FACE CHILD ABUSE CHARGES.

On August 2, deputies found Justine Destiny Barboa, 27, and Danny Lee Perkins, 25, asleep inside a vehicle near a Las Cruces baseball field.
Their two children, aged 4 and 5, were found asleep inside the vehicle with them.
Deputies reported that the vehicle was filled with trash.
The two children were reportedly dirty when discovered by law enforcement.
Both children were visibly infested with lice.
Deputies noted that both children were covered with bites and scratch marks.
Medical testing later revealed that both children tested positive for methamphetamine.
And the 4-year-old child also tested positive for fentanyl.
A medical examination showed the 5-year-old girl had scabbed or open wounds across her legs, toes, ankle, skull and arm.
Her molars were brown, decayed and filled with cavities.
A examining doctor diagnosed the 5-year-old with cellulitis.
According to medical findings, the serious bacterial skin infection could have become life-threatening without treatment.
The 4-year-old boy was found with an open wound on his wrist.
Deputies documented lice across the 4-year-old’s scalp.
His rear molar was so badly deteriorated that investigators could see gum tissue inside the tooth.
Yet Barboa allegedly claimed to authorities that the children were current on all medical and dental care.
Investigators contacted the children’s medical providers to verify the claims.
Investigators said the children’s doctor had not seen them since 2023.
They also reported that the dentist had not seen the children since August 2025.
The parents also claimed that both children had recently been enrolled in elementary school.
But the school principal stated that neither child was enrolled.
Both Barboa and Perkins face two counts of child abuse.
Perkins also faces a charge of concealing identity.
Authorities reported that Perkins allegedly gave deputies a false name during the encounter.
On August 20, Barboa was released from custody.
Perkins remained held inside the Doña Ana County Detention Center in the latest report.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
