Stranger shoves 65-year-old woman onto Bronx subway tracks — then walks into psychiatric clinic and confesses to staff

“I JUST PUSHED SOMEONE ONTO THE SUBWAY TRACKS”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY A STRANGER SHOVED A 65-YEAR-OLD WOMAN ONTO BRONX SUBWAY TRACKS IN AN UNPROVOKED ATTACK… AND LATER WALKED INTO A PSYCHIATRIC CLINIC TO ADMIT WHAT HE DID.

The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon in the Bronx, cops and sources said.

A 65-year-old woman was waiting on the subway platform.

She was standing on the northbound No. 5 train platform, according to police.

The station was located at East 180th Street and Morris Park Avenue in Van Nest.

It was approximately 1:40 p.m. when the incident took place.

A man silently approached the woman from behind, police said.

He shoved her directly onto the roadbed.

Authorities described the subway assault as an unprovoked attack.

Police said the suspect had no apparent connection to the victim.

A quick-thinking bystander immediately flagged down police officers in the station.

Those officers were conducting routine station inspection duties, law enforcement sources said.

They halted their inspection duties to assist the victim.

The officers helped the woman back up onto the platform.

She sustained only a knee injury, law enforcement sources said.

Emergency responders took the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital.

She was listed in stable condition with only knee injuries, police said.

Then the suspect showed up at a psychiatric clinic after the attack, the sources said.

He spoke directly to employees at the facility.

He told the workers he had just pushed someone onto the subway tracks.

The man then requested an evaluation at the clinic, according to the sources.

And he was in police custody by Friday.

But he was still being evaluated at the facility, according to the sources.

Charges were pending against him.
