“MY DOORS ARE NOT CLOSING”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY TORRASHA MONIQUE SMITH KEPT RUNNING AN UNLICENSED POST-SURGERY RECOVERY RETREAT FOR 274 DAYS AFTER BEING ORDERED TO SHUT DOWN… AND SHE NOW FACES HUNDREDS OF COUNTS IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY.

On January 11, 2024, 40-year-old Torrasha Monique Smith was arrested in Miami, Florida.
She was accused of operating an unlicensed post-surgery assisted living facility.
Authorities said Smith later opened another recovery home under the name Dream Body Retreat.
The operation was established at a residence on Southwest 132nd Court.
Authorities said Smith was the sole proprietor of Dream Body Retreat.
On April 24, 2025, investigators conducted a trash pull from a county waste bin outside the residence.
They discovered contaminated materials associated with post-operative care.
On April 30, 2025, authorities executed a search warrant at the home.
Inside the residence, investigators found six post-operative patients receiving personal care services.
Those services included bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene, medication assistance, and lodging.
The patients had traveled to the location from outside Miami-Dade County.
They reportedly paid Smith between $300 and $500 per night.
The payments were made through Zelle.
Patients believed the facility was properly licensed.
Investigators also found blood-soaked adult diapers, gloves, medical pads, contaminated plastics, and cloth inside a red trash bin in the garage.
An overflowing biohazard waste container covered with a tarp was also discovered on the property.
Authorities said there was no authorized medical-waste company handling disposal.
Smith was issued a Notice of Unlicensed Activity ordering her to cease operations.
On June 18, 2025, Smith surrendered to authorities.

She was charged with organized fraud, operating an unlicensed assisted living facility, hazardous waste violations, and other related offenses.
She was released on felony bond in connection with the charges involving the alleged illegal disposal of hazardous biomedical waste.
Yet investigators later determined that Smith continued operating the recovery home despite the previous arrest and the order to close.
In January 2026, deputies received an anonymous tip alleging that Smith was still running an illegal post-surgery recovery facility from the same Southwest 132nd Court residence.
One patient told investigators she had previously used the facility after Smith had already been ordered to stop operating.
Authorities determined that Smith continued running the facility for 274 days after receiving the April 30, 2025, notice.
She collected more than $200,000 in Zelle payments during that period.
Smith eventually stopped operating the facility sometime in February 2026.
And investigators said she continued accepting appointments and deposits after the business closed despite allegedly having no intention of providing the services.
Multiple patients later filed police reports after paying deposits to Dream Body Retreat.
Those patients discovered the facility had closed and were unable to reach Smith for refunds.
On July 20, 2026, a warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest.
The warrant was issued after her attorney told authorities he could not provide a date for when she would surrender.
On August 25, 2026, Smith was taken into custody at the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas.
She was later returned to South Florida.
Smith was already out on felony bond in connection with charges involving the alleged illegal disposal of hazardous biomedical waste when she was arrested.
Smith is now charged with three counts of grand theft.
She is charged with organized fraud involving $50,000 or more.
She is charged with 274 counts of failure to cease operations of an assisted living facility.
Smith remains jailed in Miami-Dade County.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
