Maryland Mother of Seven Dies After Boyfriend Allegedly Shoots Her in Head During Argument Over School Supplies

A 38-year-old Maryland mother of seven has died after being shot in the head inside a Bowie residence.

Authorities say her boyfriend shot her while she sat on a bed holding their infant daughter.

The victim has been identified as Shawanda Alston.

The shooting occurred on a Thursday inside a home located on Myrtle Avenue in Bowie, Maryland.

According to investigators, Alston and her boyfriend had been arguing prior to the gunfire.

Police identified the boyfriend as 41-year-old Kimball Alton Hinton Jr.

Investigators stated that the couple had been arguing over their ability to purchase back-to-school supplies for their children.

Police say Alston was sitting on a bed when the confrontation turned deadly.

She was holding the couple’s 2-month-old daughter in her arms at the time.

Hinton allegedly pulled a handgun from his pocket.

He then allegedly shot Alston in the head.

A young girl who was inside the home called 911.

She told dispatchers that her father had shot her mother.

Then, just minutes later, authorities say Hinton made his own call to police.

“I shot her.”

He then reportedly told the dispatcher another detail about the weapon.

“The gun is in the mailbox.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Alston suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.

She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Alston survived for several days following the shooting.

But she was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Her oldest daughter, Zhanya Freeman, said Alston was the mother of seven children.

Hinton is reportedly the father of five of them.

While Alston remained alive, authorities filed multiple charges against Hinton.

He was initially charged with attempted first-degree murder.

He was also charged with attempted second-degree murder.

The initial charges further included first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Authorities have not yet announced whether those charges will be upgraded following her death.

Hinton remains jailed without bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 21.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
