“I WOULD DO IT AGAIN”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY MADELINE DALY SHOT HER 11-MONTH-OLD SON TO DEATH INSIDE A NEW MEXICO RV RATHER THAN ALLOW HIS BIOLOGICAL FATHER TO HAVE HIM… AND SHE NOW FACES A LIFE SENTENCE IN PRISON AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.
On December 23, 2025, authorities located a missing toddler and his mother near Silver City, New Mexico.
The discovery followed a month-long search that began in Wyoming.
The child was identified as 11-month-old Basil Daly.
His mother was identified as 35-year-old Madeline Daly.
Authorities said Daly had been missing from Wyoming since November 2025.
She had failed to appear for a custody hearing involving Basil.
Emergency temporary custody of the child was later granted to the child’s biological father, Jake Stoner.
Yet Daly could not be located.
The baby could not be located either.
Investigators said Daly eventually traveled to Grant County, New Mexico.
While in the area, she stayed near Mimbres.
Investigators said Daly also sought work from a former employer.
Authorities were alerted to her location after information connected to a background check surfaced.
That background check revealed that Daly had an active Wyoming warrant.
Earlier on December 23, a deputy reportedly saw Daly and Basil at a café in Mimbres.
Later that day, another deputy saw Daly running while carrying the baby.
She entered an RV.
She refused to come out.
Authorities had received information that Daly might be armed.
Because of that information, additional law enforcement resources were requested.
A standoff followed outside the vehicle.
During the standoff, deputies heard a gunshot from inside the RV.
Authorities entered the RV.
Inside, they found Daly with a firearm pointed at her own head.
Investigators said a detective was able to disarm her.
Then deputies found Basil.
The 11-month-old child was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
Deputies immediately began lifesaving efforts on the child.
But the child died before he could be airlifted to a hospital.
Investigators later said Daly admitted shooting her son.
According to court records, Daly told investigators she did not know why she shot Basil.
Authorities also said Daly stated she would do it again rather than allow Basil’s father or his father’s family to have him.
Investigators said Daly also told them she intended to kill herself afterward.
She told investigators that she was stopped by law enforcement.
Daly was charged with first-degree murder.
She later entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.
She was ordered held without bond while the case proceeded.
On August 24, 2026, Daly changed her plea.
She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection with Basil’s death.
A judge accepted the plea agreement.
And the judge postponed sentencing to allow additional time to review the case.
Daly now faces a life sentence in the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
A sentencing date has not yet been announced.
